Stephen graduated with First Class Honours, Bachelor of Engineering (Computer) from the University of Wollongong in 2001. With a keen interest in computers, his undergraduate honours thesis investigated embedded Internet sensors and web-based information retrieval.

Stephen commenced his PhD in 2002 in the area of efficient XML delivery. His research investigates new techniques in delivering targeted XML content on a demand-based scheme. This work has been presented at both International conferences and for inclusion as part of MPEG standardisation.
